Good thing he was hammered or else it really would have been embarrassing.

According to The Smoking Gun, a 33-year-old Oregon man was charged with auto theft and attempting to elude police early Sunday morning after he got shithoused, stole a private contractor’s street sweeper and then led police on a 10-mile chase that came to an end only after he drove over spike strips that were placed in the roadway by police.

Police said Tyler Haguewood jumped behind the wheel of the Izuzu street sweeper in Hillsboro around 3:45 a.m. after the dude who was using it for its intended purpose left it running while he “used a handheld blower in order to clean an area where the street sweeper could not reach.” Haguewood then failed to stop after police found him and eventually led them on the 10-mile chase in which he topped out at 65 MPH.

Once the spike strips brought his joy ride to an end, Haguewood gave up without a fight. He’s now being held at the Washington County Jail because – shocker – he likely violated his parole for a previous conviction for aggravated harassment.
