I’ve been on escalators countless times, but even I can admit that I still get a tad nervous getting on and off it, and mainly because I know that one false move can be the end of my legs. And sure, plenty of idiots have risked serious injury on escalators, like the dude who slid on an escalator rail to impress a girl, or like the dude who somehow successfully ski down three consecutive escalators. But the girl in this story didn’t ask for her leg to be sliced open, this was just a horrible accident.
The escalator incident occurred at Sunway Pyramid shopping mall in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Apparently a girl going down the escalator had her leg cut open by some object sticking out from the escalator.
Check out video of the aftermath below, and heads up: this is pretty gross and NSFW. Let’s just say you can clearly see a piece of flesh hanging off this poor girl’s leg.

Holy hell.
This is what Sunway Pyramid mall management had to say.
“During investigation, findings have shown that there had been misuses to the escalator prior to the occurrence, including baby strollers and other lack of escalator etiquettes that are contributing factors to aggravating the escalator prior to the incident.”
Well perhaps you should have fixed this deathtrap?
Luckily, this girl is at the hospital and recovering well. And I assume she will be taking the good old stairs from now on.
