As tough as it was watching this umpire take a foul ball off his groin, and watching this cricket player take a hard shot off his jewels, it is probably nothing compared to what New Zealand Breakers Akil Mitchell had to go through.

Akil Mitchell, who is a pro basketball player at the National Basketball League, was in Auckland, New Zealand playing against the Cairns when he suffered a horrific injury: Mitchell’s eyeball popped out of its socket when he was accidentally poked by Cairns center Nnanna Egwu while going up for a rebound.

Take a look at the very scary (and graphic) video below to see the injury, and to hear the response of the broadcasters.

Holy hell. You can clearly see this poor dude’s eyeball out where it shouldn’t be. The 24-year-old was treated on the court for about 15 minutes before being taken to the hospital.

But don’t worry, sounds like he’s going to be just fine.

“While there is some damage, the early reports are very positive that the injury is not as serious as first feared,” Breakers general manager Dillon Boucher said in a statement reported by Sports Illustrated.

Mitchell even chimed in himself on the matter on Twitter:

That’s one tough dude. I would have retired.
