2016 Sturgis Rally to Open with Bikes, Art, Legends Ride

We’re covering the 2016 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally with our wheels on the ground here in South Dakota. Mount up for ongoing reports from the year’s biggest motorcycle event.

The 2016 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally gets underway today with a set of events to celebrate the culture and artistry of motorcycles.

While the thousands of motorcycles that swamp Sturgis, South Dakota every year started showing up for this year’s rumble yesterday, the shebang reaches “whole” status this morning.

The Buffalo Chip (a long-standing HQ for Sturgis debauchery for decades) will kickstart its schedule of events today with the opening of the 2016 Motorcycles as Art exhibition. While “naked bikes” were the theme of last year’s show (above), this collection explores tattoo-themed machines.

The afternoon, the Legend’s Ride will head out across the Black Hills, mixing enthusiasts with celebrities from music, TV and film to raise money for charity. The ride concludes back at Buffalo Chip for a lie auction and concert with Lynyrd Skynyrd and Elle King.

From there, our coverage of the 2016 Sturgis Rally will continue with ongoing news items and motorcycle reviews throughout the week. This year, Indian Motorcycles are introducing new models and trims — and we’ll be riding those bikes through the wilds of South Dakota to offer first impressions.

Stay tuned throughout the week for the latest motorcycles news from on the dusty ground here in Sturgis.
