Romain Jerome’s Ugly Super Mario Bros. Watch Can Be Yours for Just $19,000

Collectors often overlook good taste in favor of adding new stuff to their collection, but even the most diehard of Mario enthusiasts would struggle to justify spending $18,950 on a watch that, to the untrained eye, would look like it couldn’t have possibly been priced at anything over $100.

Luxury watchmaker Romain Jerome’s Super Mario Bros. piece features a 46mm black titanium case and a three-layered dial, with its otherwise tasteful design then being undermined by the garish, 3D enamel Mario designs plastered upon its face.

The small, pixel-style designs feature Mario, a power-up mushroom and a cloud/bush lifted from the world of the NES classic surrounding the watch’s hands, and continues the design of his other gaming-inspired ‘Generational Icons’ pieces, which have included Pac-Man and Space Invaders.

However, whereas those two designs featured a color scheme that was a little easier on the eye, the Mario Bros. piece instead closely mimics the look of the 1985 game, which makes it look considerably tackier than its predecessors by comparison.

Still, it’s imaginable that there will be a few devoted Mario fans out there who have the extra cash to splash on it, with there only being 85 pieces being released in honor of the classic game’s 30th anniversary.
