The Nexus 6P’s Glass Panels “Spontaneously Cracks,” Owners Report

Owners of the Nexus 6P are allegedly annoyed at a reported design flaw with their smartphone, as users have reported that the glass panel featured encasing the camera on the back of their new device has spontaneously cracked.

An owner of the Google phone took to the Android subreddit in order to complain that its panel had cracked of its own accord, and while this initially seemed like an isolated incident, eventually many other users replied to the post claiming that they had experienced the same problem.

Soon there were multiple reports of Nexus 6P cracked glass panels, with many users reporting that their devices had suffered the issue less than 24 hours after they had purchased it.

A user who had experienced the cracked glass issue said that he had opened a case with Google and were waiting for its creators, Huawei, to contact him. Another claimed that Google support had been “awful” in regards to addressing the problem.

Another user reported that a long crack had appeared along the display of his phone during a flight. He wrote: “Two days after I received the 6P, I was in an airplane. As the plan began to land, I tucked the phone slightly under my thigh. After we landed, I pulled it out and a long crack going diagonally across the front appeared. I reached out to Google, and they refused to help, and referred me to Huawei. I reached out to Huawei, and they were very responsive and helpful. They agreed to replace my phone using something they call an out-of-warranty exception.”

Hopefully a similar level of customer service can be expected for those who have experienced the spontaneous cracking of the Nexus 6P’s glass panel. Google and Huawei have yet to release a statement acknowledging this alleged problem, though we’ll update this story when they do.
