Overwhelmingly Dumb YouTuber Nearly Dies After Jumping Off London’s Tower Bridge
There’s that old rhetorical question that parents posit to their children when they disapprove of them following a particular popular trend: “If all your friends jumped off a bridge then would you too?” This video from YouTuber Carnage, real name Shah Faisal Shinwari, is like a visual recreation of that philosophical quandary, and it doesn’t end particularly well for the young man.
The video is titled ‘Jumping Off London Tower Bridge GOES WRONG!’ which suggests that there was a way in which this “stunt” could have ever gone right. I placed the word stunt in quotation marks there because calling this a stunt suggests there was an element of forethought involved, which there quite obviously wasn’t. A guy simply walked along Tower Bridge and then had his friend film him jumping off of it.
According to Shinwari, the video was made as a result of one of a comment left on one of his videos that dared him to do so. I’m going to guess that the comment was roughly along the lines of “go jump off a bridge and die,” as is typical of the type of conversation you can expect to see from a YouTube comments sections, but in this case Shinwari took that proposition quite literally.
Watch the video below:
Fortunately Shinwari survived the incident despite having suffered from internal drowning and picking up an infection from the dirty water he had swallowed upon impact. He was saved by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) who released a statement to the Evening Standard regarding the rescue, saying: “As a lifesaving organisation that works on the Thames, we are extremely disappointed this young man chose to risk his life in this way.
“We’re glad this young man regrets his actions, but we would strongly discourage anyone from doing anything like this. Jumping into the Thames from a bridge is extremely dangerous. The shock of cold water can make it very difficult to swim and strong currents can rapidly sweep people away.”
Hopefully Shinwari has learnt his lesson, and he refrains from jumping off any and all landmarks in the future.
