Chevrolet Corvette Challenge: 2015 MLB All-Star Game or Bust

The friendly challenge from Chevrolet was simple: Get from my summer vacation spot in Hawley Farms, Wisconsin to Cincinnati, Ohio and the 2015 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in one day — and in time to take in both the MLB Fan Experience and the game itself.

So, if I wanted my ticket, I had to go about 400 miles in six hours. Fortunately, the Chevrolet media fleet service provided me with a 2015 Corvette Stingray to pull off my “…long way to go, and a short time to get there…” adventure. You would think my deadline would be easy enough to pull off, considering the Stingray’s 6.2 liter, V8 engine, Brembo brakes and performance suspension. It even comes with a Eco Driving mode (in addition to Touring, Sport and Track) that turns off unnecessary cylinders on long cruises — meaning I wouldn’t have to stop for gas as often.

However, the brilliant, gutsy, almost concept car styling and angry exhaust note of the Corvette attracts the local highway constabulary like nature’s stingrays attract foolish Australia nature show hosts. If I drove too exuberantly, I would have no chance of dodging a ticket, a delay and a sizable fine.

Fortunately, the Corvette’s brilliant quickness and intimidating shape came in especially handy whenever I hit traffic in Chicago, West Lafayette or Indianapolis – giving me a fair shot to cross four states in time to catch the Mid-Summer Classic.

Did I make it? The gallery below speaks for itself.
