COLLECTIONS | Topman Design – Spring/Summer 2016

London Fashion Week kicked off Friday with Topman Design, the high street brother to London’s famous Topshop. The Topman Design Spring 2016 collection was a combination of eighties track suits, wide leg pants and streetwear-infused, yet meticulously tailored, suiting. These were all present during the nostalgic trip down the runway this season following their mostly ‘0s focused Fall show.

Designs ranged in hues from muted pink to purple, yellow, blue, khaki and black (of course) featured in the high waist pants, jackets and shirts the models wore. Many of the looks paired back to basic designed sneakers in various colors and dressier leather shoes were paired with the suiting separates.

Now if you’ve been under a rock since last summer and somehow missed it, men’s shorter length shorts are alive and well and present at LFW. Not a look you think you could pull off? Well, Topman offered other alternatives like the “Beetlejuice” stripe pants or even a suit depending on how daring you are. As these pieces start to trickle down into stores, there will be (as usual) more toned down, wearable versions that can be easily paired back to staple items you already own.

From British high street phenomenon to worldwide dominator, Topman has come a long way since its inception in 1978 with over 250 stores in the UK and a further 154 stores internationally across 31 countries. Topman stores are in over 60 cities worldwide, stretching across 20 countries with boutiques in China and Japan even stocking the brand. America is also getting a healthy dose of Topman love, with stores in LA, Las Vegas and of course the second largest store located on none other than Fifth Avenue New York, as well as over 40 Nordstrom locations. Topman is also a staunch supporter of UK menswear design talent through its own partnership with FashionEast.
