Alan Sugar Will Pay £5,000 to Make Piers Morgan Stop Using Twitter

Piers Morgan is a prolific Twitter user, much to the chagrin of many other users of the social network. However, today he told the British public that he would abstain from tweeting for 24 hours if they raised a collective £5,000 for Comic Relief, with his staunch rival Lord Alan Sugar immediately coming up with the goods.

Morgan, who co-hosts the morning show Good Morning Britain with Susanna Reid, said that he would stay quiet on Twitter, TV and radio for a 24-hour period if the public raised enough money for charity. Business magnate Sugar responded to this request, saying that Comic Relief should “send me the bill straight away”, calling it “the bargain of the century”.

Take a look at Sugar’s response below:

Morgan has pledged to remain “radio silent” for the duration of March 24 — Red Nose Day — if the £5,000 is paid, which Sugar has stated that he is more than willing to do. The controversial presenter said that this will be “potentially very dangerous”, as “people can launch strikes against [him] on social media” that he will not be able to respond to.

He also made another Comic Relief pledge on the morning show, saying that if the public raised £50,000 via his JustGiving page he would wear a Tottenham Hotspurs shirt for a day. Considering that he’s a devoted Arsenal fan, regularly taunting Spurs fans via Twitter, this is a goal that many have hoped will be reached.

“In support of Red Nose Day, I have begrudgingly agreed to stop tweeting, writing, broadcasting and just generally running off at the mouth for 24 whole hours”, Piers said in a statement. “As you can imagine, this doesn’t come naturally and I anticipate some relentless taunting (I’m looking at you, Gary Lineker…).”

He continued: “I’ve agreed to be shut up to an even greater degree… by wearing a Spurs shirt. That is if the British public raises £50,000.”

Donations can be made via JustGiving.
