2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance: Ford Extends Production of Ford GT Supercar

With the 2016 editions of Monterey Car Week, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in the books, Crave was on the scene to explore the worlds of elite classic automobiles and modern supercars.

It’s a simple concept: You know business for an automaker is good for any model whenever the company keeps building it. However, when it’s a supercar’s production the car builder decides to extend, business must be exceptionally good.

Ford Performance – Dearborn’s special model division specializing in their hottest machines — announced during the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance that it will extend production of the all-new Ford GT for another two years. That means the car will be manufactured through 2019.

Any customers who applied to purchase a Ford GT during its initial sales period will need to update their request when the next application window arrives in early 2018.

More people applied to buy the supercar than Ford could handle. The third year of production (the first added year) will be for the benefit of applicants who were placed on the wait list. Anyone who missed the initial application period will be served by the fourth year.
