The GDCJ – The Hippest Comedy and Rock Show in LA

Be forewarned, this isn’t your run of the mill stand-up show. The Goddamn Comedy Show (GDCJ) is a party that fuses live music with hilarious comedic sets.

Imagine seeing Bill Burr performing Motley Crue’s “Dr. Feelgood” or Adam Devine’s version of Limp Biskit’s “Break Stuff” and you’ll have an idea of the type of mayhem an evening at the GDJC has in store for you. Hosted by Josh Adam Meyers, the show features top comics willing to check their egos at the door in an attempt to live the dream of rocking the house…or bomb spectacularly while trying.

Held once a month at the Lyric Theatre in Hollywood, it’s the perfect venue for getting up close and personal with your favorite funny people. As the house band, Elemenopy (Joel Rutkowski, Nick Liberatore) gets the crowd pumping, the comedians prepare to take the stage and stake their claim as legit rockers. Each comic performs a stand up set and then belts out an unrehearsed cover version of their favorite song accompanied by the band. In addition to Burr and Devine, comedians Jim Jefferies, Fortune Feimster, Jerrod Carmichael, Ryan Sickler and Jay Larson have all given it a shot.

The evening culminates in the finale song, where all the performers come on stage and jam together. Tickets are $12. Doors open at 8:30pm, the show starts at 9:00pm. But come early and stay late. There’s always a pre and post party at Voila! Gallery; located right next to the theater.

The December 9th show features comics Roy Wood Jr. (CONAN; Last Comic Standing, Late Night; Premium Blend), Rory Scovel (The Eric Andre Show; CONAN; The Meltdown; Comedy Central), Todd Glass (The Sarah Silverman Program; Comedy Central Presents; Mr. Show; Jimmy Kimmel Live; Comedy Bang! Bang!) Jim Jefferies (Legit; Bare; Fully Functional; Alcoholocaust; I Swear To God; Contraband; Funny As Hell; CONAN)

You can also catch the GDCJ at the third annual Riot L.A. comedy festival in downtown Los Angeles (Jan. 16-18) General passes are $90 and VIP passes $500.
