She is an only child and has Italian ancestry. As a teen, she graduated from Westridge School for Girls and played volleyball. At 17, she was named the Tournament of Roses Parade Queen. Sophia later attended the University of Southern California and joined the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. When she landed the role of Brooke Davis on "One Tree Hill," she dropped out of USC.
Sophia Bush said about growing up, "In the end, everything gets better. I wish I had known to focus more on things my parents were pushing on me and less on what kids were saying."
Sophia Bush made her feature debut in "Van Wilder," and appeared on "Nip/Tuck," "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" and "Punk'd." She nearly landed the lead role in "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines," but the director thought she was too young.
Sophia has been a spokesperson for MasterCard, Kmart, Chevy Cobalt and Cingular wireless. She also added directing to her resume, as she directed three episodes of "One Tree Hill."
Her other roles include "John Tucker Must Die," "Stay Alive" and "The Narrows," among others. In 2012, she was on the series "Partners," but it was subsequently cancelled. She said before its demise, "I loved what it had to say, and you know me, I am a gay man trapped in a woman's body."
Sophia Bush has been ranked in several "Sexiest" Lists, as well as People's "Beautiful at Every Age."
Sophia Bush married her co-star Chad Michael Murray, but the marriage lasted only five months.
Sophia Bush is involved in charities such as F Cancer, Run For the Gulf and Global Green Gulf Relief. She was against Chick-Fil-A. "Here's my issue. It shocks me how many people come to their defense, first of all. I'm sorry, it's 2012, if you really think it's OK to deny anybody their basic human right of loving who they choose to love, you can go f"k yourself, honestly. And you can print that, because I'm done. I am so over it!" (eonline.com). Sophia Bush added, "My God loves everybody, and if yours doesn't, that's your prerogative, but don't tell me how to live my life and don't tell my best friends that you're going to take away their rights. Because I will march you into the ground. I will argue you into the ground. I will petition you into the ground. I will not sleep, I will not stop, and neither will so many people in this country and in this world. It's not right."
