Rachel Bilson has Jewish and Italian ancestry. She attended Walter Reed Middle School and Notre Dame High School.
As a teenager, Rachel said she hung around the wrong crowd and it took a car accident to change her life. "We were going really fast and we were involved in a head-on collision with a truck. We were in a tiny car and it was a pretty bad crash. They had to cut us out and I was in a coma for a few days. Everyone was lucky to have survived" (mirror.co.uk).
Rachel Bilson spent a year at Grossmont College but dropped out after a year in order to pursue acting. She appeared in a variety of commercials, including Subway, Raisin Bran and Pepto-Bismol, but it was her role on "The O.C." that made her a star.
While on the show, Bilson dated her co-star, Adam Brody. The relationship lasted three years. She said, "I just had absolutely no idea that all that " being on the 'The O.C.', dating Adam " was going to end up being so invasive" (celebuzz.com).
Rachel Bilson's first film role was "The Last Kiss," starring Zach Braff. "I get offers for teen, O.C., typecasting kind of roles, but I decided to steer away from that. I wanted to show that I could do other things" (thehollywoodgossip.com).
Rachel Bilson followed that role with the movie "Jumper," and television appearances on "Chuck," and "How I Met Your Mother." While on the movie, "Jumper," she began dating Hayden Christensen, and they got engaged. They called off their engagement and broke up, only to start dating later. She told style.popcruch.com, "All I can say is, I don't talk about the personal stuff. It's the one thing you can keep to yourself. At least you try to. I can say that I'm happy, yeah I'm happy with my love life, that's all I'll say."
In 2008, Rachel Bilson launched her clothing line Edie Rose. She said in an interview that she doesn't like sluttly clothes. "You try something on, and if you feel like a slut, you probably look like one" (Lucky Mag, April 2012).
In 2011, Rachel Bilson landed on the series "Hart of Dixie," about a big-city doctor who moves to Alabama to take over her father's practice.
In her spare time, she "like[s] to cook and hang out in my PJs. I like to cook homey, comfy foods, meatloaf and chili."
Rachel Bilson lives in Los Angeles.
