Jamie is a second-generation Korean-American. She went to the University of California, Riverside. Growing up, "we'd only speak Korean at home, they wouldn't let us have sleepovers, and sent us away to Korean church camp during the summers. We had weird food concoctions, too, instead of spaghetti Bolognese, we had rice Bolognese with kimchi" (thedailybeast.com).
Jamie Chung landed on the fourteenth season of "The Real World," and took a quarter off of school to participate. "Luckily, I didn't do anything too much to embarrass myself. My dad found out about 'The Real World: Las Vegas' and how everyone was having sex, so he warned me before we started: 'Do not have sex with American boys on TV! That was his farewell to me."
Afterwards, Jamie Chung segued into acting with roles in "Days of Our Lives," "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry," "CSI: NY", "Veronica Mars," "Samurai Girl," "Premium Rush," "Sorority Row," "The Hangover Part II," and "Sucker Punch." But the transition wasn't easy. She told thedailybeast.com, "The casting directors that were aware of 'The Real World' looked at me as a joke. It was so hard to get away from that." Jamie Chung added, "it's extremely hard to even get the Asian roles."
When asked about Asian identity in media, Jamie said, "I feel like we're leaning towards an era of diversifying casts. People want and are demanding a colorful cast.it's coming down to whether or not a person is right for the role " are they going to go beyond expectations of what's on the page?" (8asians.com).
Asked if she watches herself on screen, Jamie said, "I can't stand looking at myself on screen. I'm always thinking 'I could've done this' or 'I could've done that' " but that's a good quality to have as an actor. You always want to continue to evolve and get better."
Jamie Chung said, "I view my career like a rubber-band ball in that every role is a new experience building toward something bigger."
The type of guy Jamie Chung likes is "someone who doesn't take himself " or life " too seriously." Her turnoff is "Hollywood sleaze! I throw up in my mouth a little bit when people try to impress me at parties and namedrop. It's so disturbing." And her turn-ons are "comedians!" (mensfitness.com).
