Freida Pinto won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
It took Freida Pinto six months of auditions to land her breakout role. Pinto said, "It was not just me. They had to find the me, and the younger me, and the younger younger me" (thedailybeast.com).
With the success of "Slumdog Millionaire," Freida landed roles in Woody Allen's "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger," "Immortals," "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," "Trishna" and "Miral."
Freida Pinto was raised Catholic and had wanted to become an actress since she was five years old. She studied at St. Xavier's College while acting in amateur productions. Later, she joined Elite Model Management and became a model. Freida said, "I did not particularly enjoy modeling. I felt I was only utilizing 10 or 20 percent of my abilities. In India, it's just another job" (interviewmagazine.com).
Freida has appeared in advertisements for Wrigley's, DeBeers and walked fashion runways.
In 2009, Freida Pinto became a spokesperson for L'Oreal.
When asked if she is sometimes cast just as eye candy, Freida Pinto said, "Sometimes, being.and I hate saying this, they look for this 'exotic' girl in the film. Then they'll send a script and I read the script and I'm in two lines, which if you actually take those two lines out of the film it has not affected the film at all. The film still continues to run as it. That's when it's for me to say that's not for me" (huffingtonpost.com).
Freida Pinto said about fame and its rewards, "It's a funny situation, when you can actually buy things, you get things for free. And it's always nice. I'm happy to promote brands. I make sure I send the picture irrespective of whether they let me keep it. But it's a strange situation. Finally, it happens, I get my paycheck from 'Slumdog' and I start getting gifted."
She said about her relationship with Dev Patel, who is six years her junior, "The first time, my mum was like, 'Well, he's six years younger than you are.' I said, 'I know. I don't know how it happened.' But she met him and it all worked out."
Freida Pinto supports the Agassi Foundation.
