When her parents divorced, Emma moved with her mother and younger brother to Oxfordshire, spending weekends with her father in London. Emma speaks English and French.
Emma always wanted to be an actress, and as a child trained at Stagecoach Theatre Arts. By the age of then, she'd been in Stagecoach productions and school plays.
At age 10, she was cast (after her 9th callback) as Hermione in the "Harry Potter" series, and had never acted professionally before. "I just felt like that part belonged to me. I know that sounds crazy, but from that first audition, I always knew."
Emma Watson said in a later interview, "I felt like I knew exactly who she was. Like me, she's very loyal and determined, she's very intelligent, and she has a lot of guy friends, as I do. Her eagerness to please and to have the right answer is definitely like me. I'm a perfectionist, so my bossiness definitely comes out."
Emma subsequently acted in all of its sequels. She told Interview magazine that she still has the wishbone she received from her father during the audition process. While on set, she was tutored.
She told Vogue Italy, "In a way it's hard to grow up inside a film. I lived a period of my life that is full of lessons and changes underneath the spotlight."
Emma Watson attended Brown University. Sometimes in class when she answered a question correctly, one of her classmates would call out, "Score 20 points for Gryffindor!" She told Marie Claire, "The first year at Brown was about finding my feet. I found a great group of girlfriends, and now that I know how things work.I'm really excited about going back for my second year." However, she postponed her studies in March 2011 to give her more time to participate in other projects and has yet to return.
Emma Watson became the face of Burberry in their Autumn/Winter 2009 campaign. She also appeared on magazine covers including Teen Vogue. She has also appeared in the films "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," "The Tale of Despereaux," and "My Week with Marilyn," among others.
She told Seventeen magazine, "If I want to see someone, I want to see them, and if I don't, then I don't. I pretty much say to a guy, 'I like you " let's go hang out.'"
Emma Watson lives in London, England.
