Her father is a sound engineer, and her mother is a businesswoman. Inspired after seeing "Show Boat," Emilia Clarke started acting at the age of three. She went to St. Edward's and Rye St Anthony, finally graduating from Drama Centre London.
While in school, Emilia Clarke acted in theatre productions. She has been in a commercial for Samaritans, and her first TV role was an episode of "Doctors." But it was her role in "Game of Thrones" that has gotten her the most attention. Emilia Clarke was nominated for the IGN Award for Best Television Actress of 2011, and she won the EWwy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a drama and the Scream award for Female Breakout Performance. Emilia said, "You could take the fantasy out and it would still stand up as an outstanding piece of drama" (gq.com).
Emilia Clarke is set to make her Broadway debut in the upcoming production of "Breakfast at Tiffany's."
About her success, Emilia Clarke said, "Friends and family are happy.yeah, my life now is utterly unrecognizable to what it was. It can be quite dangerous to take too many steps backwards to see it all like that. Better to take it as it comes, be true to yourself, and work as hard as you possibly can" (westeros.com).
In an interview with The Telegraph, Emilia Clarke talked about her similarities between herself and Daenaerys. "We both started out as naïve young girls with plenty to learn.I feel like I've learned a huge amount. Not to sound too much like an obnoxious actor, but the character never really leaves me. I've read all the books many times over, so I sometimes find it easier being on set, because it can be hard to get out of character."
Emilia Clarke also doesn't go on the Internet to read about herself. "At the start I was looking and found something which wasn't very nice, so now I leave it all. If there's something that people are desperately happy with or unhappy with, you tend to hear about it anyway."
Emilia has said that "I am not on Twitter, never have been, never will, it's not my thing. Someone pretended to be me a while back, now someone else is doing it, and posting a lot, and it's important that the fans aren't tricked. Isn't it weird that someone would be so bothered to do it?" Though she is based in London, Emilia Clarke travels for her work on "Game of Thrones," and can also be found in Los Angeles.
