Her father is a minister and her mother runs a bed and breakfast. Behati said she "grew up in a small town.I'm an only child and pretty much did kid stuff, gymnastics, track, riding, field hockey. I hung out on my friend's farm a lot" (fashionista.com).

At the age of 16, a model scout in Cape Town, South Africa discovered her. (It was the same scout that discovered Kate Moss.) Behati describes the experience, "I was on vacation with my grandmother and grandfather.this guy came up to me.and wrote his number on a piece of paper and my grandfather was like this is so shady."

Behati has walked the runway for Chanel, Prada and Miu Miu. She has also graced the covers of Vogue, Italy's Muse, Russian Vogue, among others. Behati said of modeling at first, "Living in model flats scarred me for life. Girls are the dirtiest people ever..I was like sixteen.[and there were other girls] who would bring their boyfriends home which was strictly not allowed and I would hear everything..it was awful."

Behati Prinsloo has done ad campaigns for Adore, Chanel, H&M, Hugo Boss and more. She was also the face for Nina Ricci.

She has appeared in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in 2007-2011. In 2009, she was made a Victoria's Secret Angel. Previously, she had been doing print work for their brand "Pink."

Behati Prinsloo was ranked 14th on "Top Sexiest Models" by models.com. And ironic given her success, she has been quoted as saying, "I never wanted to be a model."

Behati said she prefers to shoot on location, rather than in a studio. She said of working out, "I hate the gym. I tried a million gyms and a million trainers and it's just so boring. I need motivation. I actually thought I was fine. Like I thought I'd be okay until I got to the first Victoria's Secret show, I was like, I'm fine, I'm ready. And then I got to the show and these girls were like BAM! I mean, I wasn't ready."

Behati Prinsloo's ideal New York day when she's not working is just hanging out. "[I'd] just sit in the sun smoking cigarettes all day with my friends.
