She attended St. Hilda’s School, Westcliff from the age of 3 to 11. She then went to Westcliff High School for Girls when she was 12.
Nathalie Emmanuel said of her mixed-race heritage, “You hear about slavery, and all the awful things that people used to go through, you can’t help but be angry about it. But you see that times have changed, and that things are better.” She said growing up that she didn’t quite know where she belonged. “Everyone needs to learn their heritage, and it helps you identify yourself.”
Her big break came as the star of a Vodafone advertisement while she worked at a bank. She has also appeared in commercials for McDonald’s and British Airways. Other roles include Nala in the West End production of “The Lion King,” as well as Charlie in the E4 show “Misfits.”

She said of her airbrushed image on magazines, “For the sake of the self-esteem of young girls there needs to be an honesty with pictures. I want pictures of me to be real.”
Nathalie Emmanuel is most well known in her home country for her role as the booze-loving Sasha Valentine on the soap opera “Hollyoaks,” a part she played from 2006 to 2010. She said in 2009, “I don’t drink very often due to my busy schedule, but when I have drunk in the past, I have on occasion been guilty of binge drinking.”
Tidbits: when she was eight, she was bitten by a horse.
Nathalie Emmanuel said of landing her part on “Game of Thrones,” “It was a amazing! I’m such a fan of the show, like, it’s a little bit insane. By the way, I’m a bit of a ‘Throny’ as I think the ‘Game of Thrones’ fans refer to themselves.”
She added, “I read sort of up to where the storyline kind of fits in with the season, I thought it was important for me to familiarize myself, also to have a mental image of everything…I haven’t read all the books, I’m still reading…the books are fantastic. I have struggled to put them down.”
