Milla Jovovich was born in Kiev to a pediatrician father and a famous Russian actress mother. Her last name is pronounced yo-vo-vitch. She speaks English, Russian and Serbian, (and learned English within three months of moving to America.)
When Milla was five, her family emigrated from the then-Soviet Union to London, then Sacramento, CA, and finally settled in Los Angeles. Her parents then worked as housecleaners for director Brian DePalma. Her parents would later separate, then divorce.
As a kid from the Soviet Union during the Cold War, Milla was ostracized by some of her classmates and picked on her because of her accent and communist background.
