She is an only child and moved often due to her fathers job in the military. After stints in Germany, New York, California, Arizona and Nevada, the family settled down in Atlanta, Georgia. Though Ciara at first wanted to become a model when she grew up, when she saw Destinys Child perform on TV, she decided thats what she wanted to do. She was subsequently voted Most Likely To Become Famous in high school.
In her teens, she formed the groups Hearsay with two of her friends, but they soon broke up. Ciara eventually landed a songwriting deal and wrote Got Me Waiting for Fantasia Barrino.

After Ciara graduated from high school, L.A. Reid of LaFace Records signed her to do an album. Her album Goodies was released in 2004 and debuted at number three on the U.S. Billboard 200.
When asked about writing her own songs, Ciara said, I like to be involved in my record just because I want my music to reflect who I am as a person as much as possible. I think its very important that I give people the real me. And because I love writing. Writing is something Ive been blessed with; Ive been blessed with this talent to write. Her second album Ciara: The Evolution reached number one in the United States and was certified platinum. Her third album Fantasy Ride, spawned the top-ten hit Love Sex Magic. Her fourth album Basic Instinct had low sales. Ciara said of her guest vocalists, They spice a record; they add a little seasoning to it. Im the dressing, and they put a little gravy on it.
Ciara has earned three BET Awards, three MTV Video Music Awards, three MOBO Awards and one Grammy Award. She has sold over seven million albums worldwide.
In 2009, Ciara became the face of Dosomething.org, a campaign to raise school supplies for those in need at the start of the school year.
Ciara spoke of her taste in men: Every girl out there, we want a guy whos comfortable in his own skin, who lets us grow, and who challenges us. But when it comes to superficial stuff, I mean who doesnt like a good, hard body? You dont have to be all crazy, just in shape. And have a neck, please! (Maxim, 2010).
