Growing up, Christina Aguilera was known in her area as “the little girl with the big voice.” She sang in local talent show and competitions. She’s come a long way since then and has released over six albums, including “Stripped,” “Back to Basics,” “Bionic,” “Lotus,” “Christina Aguilera,” and “My Kind of Christmas.”
Her musical influences include Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson and Etta James. Her voice range is four octaves.
Christina Aguilera is a mix of Ecuadorian, German, Irish, Welsh and Dutch ancestry. She said, regarding her detractors who claim that she is not Latina enough, “I should not have to prove my ethnicity to anyone. I know who I am.”
Her nicknames include Chrissy, X-Tina, Baby Jane and Candy. When she was 12, she was invited to audition for “The All New Mickey Mouse Club,” and stayed with the show until its end in 1999.

In 1999, Christina Aguilera had her breakthrough hit, “Genie in a Bottle.” Her road to success wasn’t easy. In 1994, several labels passed on the opportunity to sign her. Undeterred, she went to Japan to jump-start her career. She added, “My parents’ divorce and hard times at school, all those things combined to mold me, to make me grow up quicker. And it gave me the drive to pursue my dreams that I wouldn’t necessarily have had otherwise.”
Rolling Stone Magazine wrote that her video, Dirrty, is the most played music video of all time.
Regarding her weight, Christina Aguilera said, “You can never be too much of anything. You can never be too perfect, too thin, too curvy, voluptuous, this, that…as long as I am happy in my own skin, that is all the confirmation I need…I love my body, my son is healthy and happy and that is all that matters.”
Aside from singing, Christina Aguilera has released two fragrances; a line of clothing for a Brazilian department store; and she inspired a collection of sterling silver jewelry from designer Stephen Webster. She was also a judge on NBC’s singing competition, “The Voice.”
She has a son, Max Liron Bratman. Christina Aguilera lives in Los Angeles.
