As a little girl, I always knew I wanted to do something different, something my family and I could be proud of one day." She added, "It was such a pure, beautiful way to grow up. I used to wear overalls. And big boots, and poked cow poo, and helped the cows give birth. It was a really amazing playground."
At the age of 15, while enrolled at St. Anne's College, an all-girls boarding school, a model scout discovered her at a Durban flea market. Within a year, Candice had booked modeling jobs all across Europe. Candice Swanepoel describes it as an incredible blessing for someone from such a sheltered upbringing, but it forced her to make tough decisions about her life at a young age.
After travelling for two years between jobs, Candice Swanepoel gave up a normal teenage life and moved to New York City to model full-time. Soon after, she became a Victoria's Secret Angel, the first South-African model to walk in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
Candice Swanepoel says she's happiest and most comfortable hiding away on a beach with a good pair of sunglasses, soft sand and some Reggae music.
Candice Swanepoel's magazine covers include Vogue, ELLE, GQ, Harper's Bazaar, and Ocean Drive. She has done advertisements for Nike, Diesel, Guess?, Tommy Hilfiger, Tom Ford and Versace. Her runaway work includes Dolce and Gabbana, Fendi, Chanel, and numerous others.
Candice Swanepoel debuted on the Forbes' "The World's Top-Earning Models" list, with estimated earnings of $3 million between 2010 and 2011.

In 2012, the ads for Brian Atwood's latest show line featuring Candice Swanepoel writhing with naked men was deemed too racy to appear in New York City. Said Candice, "I respect that they banned it. Not everybody is comfortable with their sexuality and with showing your body. For me, it's not a problem. I'm proud of my body. I work hard for my body. As long as it's always done in a tasteful way, which it was." A film version of the ad, which was due to air in New York taxis, was also banned. The ads appeared in the September issue of Vogue, W, V Magazine and CR Fashion Book.
Candice Swanepoel speaks fluent Afrikaans and Portuguese and has been dating male model Hermann Nicoli since she met him at age 17.
