While she lived in New York, she dated guitarist Dave Milone from the band Radio4. “It’s a bit of a cliché, I know, a model and a rocker. It’s good though.”
Caitriona Balfe said, “When I started it was like, a lot of the Brazilian girls were around, it was all about being voluptuous and I think in the last couple of seasons there’s been a lot of really, really skinny girls again. I mean, you can tell when somebody doesn’t eat, you can tell by the big rings under their eyes, or when they’re kind of quiet.”
She says “I’ve always been thin…I’ve always been lucky that I can [eat].” She also walked the Victoria’s Secret show in 2002 on TV. “Oh my God, my poor Da,” she groaned.
Caitriona Balfe moved to California in 2009 and worked for BCBG. She wrote an article for modelalliance.org in which she detailed her life as a model and the difficulties she had in getting paid. “After I finally recovered all monies owed, I was left feeling that my agency had looked out for the client’s interests far above those of “us girls” who they were supposed to represent.”
As for her landing the role on “Outlander,” Ron Moore said, “Caitriona wasn’t on anyone’s radar, she wasn’t on any list, but when we saw her audition tape, we immediately knew she was someone special.”
