Britney Spears made her local stage debut when she was only 5, and by 8, she had auditioned for the “Mickey Mouse Club.” Too young at the time, Britney moved to New York and enrolled in the Professional Performing Arts School. In 1992, she was finally cast in the “Mickey Mouse Club.”
In 1999, she released her debut album “Baby One More Time,” selling 10 million copies in a year, and becoming the biggest selling album ever by a teenager. Her second album was “Oops! I Did It Again,” which debuted at Number One.
Other albums followed, as did a film, “Crossroads.” She’s said her idol is Madonna, whom she once kissed on-stage.
Though she is a natural brunette, she often dyes her hair blonde. She has a tattoo of a small black-winged fairy on the back of her spine.
In 2004, her perfume “Curious” was one of the best selling fragrances of the year.
Britney has two children, Sean Federline and Jayden James Federline. She has been married twice; once to Kevin Federline and another to Jason Allen Alexander, in which she said was “taking a joke too far.”
In 2007, she hit rock bottom, writing she “did not know what to do with myself” after her split from Kevin Federline. She entered a Malibu treatment facility after months of partying. By then, her career was on a downward spiral, her looks were ebbing, her marriage was over, she had attacked a photographer’s car with an umbrella, and her children had been taken away. Soon after, her management company dropped her. Not helping matters, she was charged with a hit-and-run and driving without a valid license. She has since rebounded, getting back in shape, and managing to stay in the spotlight more for her career rather than her personal life. Some of that may be due to a conservatorship, in which her finances were placed under the direction of her father.
She said, “These parents, they think I’m a role model for their kids, that their kids look at me as some sort of idol. But it’s the parents’ job to make sure their kids don’t turn out that shallow. That’s not my responsibility. I’m not responsible for your kid.”
Most recently, Britney Spears had a gig as a judge on the American “X Factor,” earning a reported $15 million for one year’s work.
Britney has been romantically linked with Justin Timberlake, Robbie Carrico and Isaac Cohen, among others.
Britney Spears lives in Los Angeles, California.
