Though born in Los Angeles, Anastasia Ashley moved to the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii when she was five after her parents’ divorce. It was there she was introduced to surfing. Self-taught, she won the pro surf tour of America at age 16. “Generally, when people first start surfing, it’s a process. They don’t just stand up and catch waves, but for me, it came really easy.” She later said she was bred to surf.

Her nickname is Stasia. She said, “Because…my family is from [Beverly Hills], a lot of people might think I’m spoiled, I’m arrogant and stuff. And I’m not, and anyone who knows me knows that. I’m a very caring person.”
Once she finished high school, she put college off indefinitely. Her mother later died from Lou Gehrig’s disease in 2008. “I know she would have been proud of me, you know? She never said ‘you might be good but rather always said ‘you will.’”
Anastasia did admit to getting occasionally scared when a wave pins her down longer than she expected or when she hits a reef.
She did say male surfers have more contests in which to compete. “There aren’t that many contest for girls, which is kind of a bummer.”
To her, surfing means “just living a clean life, staying positive and trying to do your best in anything you do in your life….being a surfer teaches you how to be determined and focused.” In 2010, she became the Women’s Pipeline Pro champion.
She later landed sponsorships from Oakley, Infinity Surfboards and PowerBar. She also became a PETA spokesperson.

Aside from surfing, Anastasia has modeling for FHM and done commercial work for Old Spice. “I love playing dress up…I enjoy the ‘modeling’ and ‘glamours’ aspect of my job, but at the same time don’t take it too seriously, and have fun doing it.” She said in a separate interview, “I’ve never claimed myself to be a model…most of the media opportunities I’ve had are because I’m a surfer."
She also has over 200 pairs of shoes. Though she said later she donated most of them to charity. Anastasia Ashley splits her time between California and Hawaii.
