BioWhen she was 19, she moved to New York City to attend the Parsons School of Design. But when she arrived, encouraged by a friend, she met with Next Models and was signed.
Since then, Veronica Varekova landed on the covers of over 100 magazines including Vogue, Marie Claire, GQ (Russia, Italy, Portugal, Spain and UK), and the Holy Grail of covers, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. She appeared in the swimsuit edition for a total of eight times between 1999 and 2007.
She later starred in ad campaigns for Gap, Chanel, Guess, and Victorias Secret, among others. She was also the face for NIVEA. Most models turn to acting. Veronika didnt. Veronika Varekova said of acting, I have respect for the craft, but you cant be an artist if its not in you.
When Veronika climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 2008, she met with the African Wildlife Foundation and discovered her passion for wildlife. She has since focused on philanthropic endeavors, and was named one of the first Goodwill Ambassadors to the African Wildlife Foundation in 2009. It is the website she lists on her Twitter account.
She said, I made frequent trips to Africa when I was growing up and fell in love with the continent. She added, What is important is to use your personal strength to continually recharge your batteries, so that you can give more.
As reported in Vanity Fair, when Veronika Varekova returned from a mission in the hills of Rwanda, she wrote of her amazement of seeing silverback gorillas. Their facial expressions are tender. And on occasion flirtatious.
Veronika is also a volunteer at the SZPD Orphanage in her town of Olomouc. She said, It used to be a hospital; it has become a home. At the Orphanage she is known simply as Aunt V. Veronika said, When I was 20, I was more reserved, more timid. Real luxury is to know yourself. To listen to your heart in order to move forward. To accept yourself.
Veronika has a degree in Psychology and Education and she is trilingual.
Veronika Varekova was married to hockey player Petr Nedved. He proposed to her on Pragues Charles Bridge, but they divorced soon thereafter. She said before their engagement, I didnt really like him at first, but he was persistent to get my number, and little by little Maybe first impressions are right.
Veronika Varekova lives in New York City, but spends time in Prague, Czech Republic to be close to friends and family.
