Sydney Tamiia Poitier is an American actress probably best known for her role as FJ Jungle Julia in “Grindhouse.” People magazine named her one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in 2001. She is notably not active on social media.
Her father is famous Oscar-winning actor Sydney Poitier and her mother is Joanna Shimkus. Sydney Tamiia Poitier is a mix of Afro-Bahamian, Lithuanian and Irish ancestry.

In high school Sydney Tamiia Poitier acted in the occasional theatre production and later enrolled at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She also took acting lessons at the Stella Adler Conservatory. While auditioning, she made money from a job at a record label. Her screen debut came in the independent film “Park Day.”
Sydney Tamiia Poitier said she sometimes gets free, unexpected perks. For example, hotels may give her luxury suites because they assumed it was her famous father (with the same name) who was staying there. “I check in and then the frown on their faces sets in. You could just see the disappointment and I really feel bad when that stuff happens.”
She has also appeared in Clint Eastwood’s “True Crime” and the TV reboot of “Knight Rider" and “Hawaii Five-O,” among other roles. She said she is normally cast as “the nice girl or the sweet girl or the girl next door. I don’t usually get the tough girl roles or the bitchy girls or the really sexy girls.”
Sydney Tamiia Poitier said, “There’s a lot of movies that are not so great that are being made…I’m just reading a bunch of stuff and I’m just looking for that next thing that impassions me.” She said about auditions, “It’s always a challenge and it’s still a challenge [to get into the door for auditions.]”
As for her musical tastes, she said, “I’m a fan of pretty much everything. I love rock. I love R & B. I love hip hop, although older hip hop.”
