She appeared in the 2002 film The Scorpion King as a harlot and was Briefcase Girl No. 25 on the NBC game show starring Howie Mandel, Deal or No Deal.

Sonia Vera has graced the cover of Maxim magazine and was featured in their 2008 calendar. Other magazine appearances include Front (UK), LOFT, Que (Germany), Ramp and FHM. She also made Maxims 25 Hottest Latinas of the Year.

She has also been a billboard model for Coors and Skyy Vodka, and ads for Bacardi, Keystone, Treasure Island Hotel and Casino, Paris Hotel and Casino, Leg Avenue and swimwear catalogues.

In 2007, Sonia Vera took a break from modeling to build her own company, Sonia Vera Swimwear. She references Racquel Welch and Sophia Loren in her designs. She said she wants to build a brand that is as timeless as the beauties that inspire it.

Sonia Vera told Fashion Week Live the inspiration for her collection was her travels to Tahiti and she was amazed with the island and how relaxed she felt; she wanted to take all the beautiful colors from the sky and ocean and greens and the serenity, the flowers, the sand and trees and combine it into her swimwear line.
