Silje Norendal was born on January 9, 1993 in Kongsberg, Norway and has been snowboarding practically ever since. Her mother of all people was the one to get her into the sport, taking her to a local ski resort at age four. By age six, she was already competing in competition, and by age 12, she was competing in every competition she could think to from slopestyle, big air, boarder cross, and even slalom. It was around the same time that she competed in her very first national championship in Norway, as you had to be at least 12 years old to enter the competition.

At age 13, Silje was already sponsored by Roxy snowboards due to her appearance in the nationals the previous year. In 2007, she was awarded the "Rookie of the Year" award at Norway's Snowboard Awards. By this time, she had already cemented herself as one of the best up-and-comers in the sport, so she began attending snowboard school in Norway as well. Unlike traditional schools, this one was focused primarily on prepping athletes from many different sports (football, racing, etc.), and even required a week of tryouts to get in.

As Silje continued her education, she was still allowed to travel and compete in events. Some of her career highlights include being named Norwegian Female Ride of the Year in 2011, taking home a silver medal for the slopestyle event at the 2011 Euro X Games, and most famously, taking the gold two years later. This, of course, more than prepared her for her first appearance in the 2014 Winter X Games, where she would again be competing for the gold in the slopestyle event.
