Robin Tunney is an American television and film actress. She is best known for her role as Teresa Lisbon on the CBS series "The Mentalist," but has also starred in films such as "Empire Records," "The Craft," and "Vertical Limit."
Robin Jessica Tunney was born on June 19, 1972 in Chicago, Illinois. It was here that her young acting career began in a series of commercials. At the same time, she was attending Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park before graduating and moving on to the Chicago Academy for the Arts. By the age of 19, she decided it was time to make the transition to Los Angeles in order to pursue her dream of starring in movies and television.
After starring in the film "Encino Man" in 1992, Robin went on to star in a number of recurring roles on TV series such as "Class of '96" and "Cutters" before landing her career altering role in the now cult classic "Empire Records," where she played suicidal teen Debra. From here, the opportunities continued to swarm in, with Robin landing major roles in films such as "The Craft," "End of Days," and "Supernova," as well as on the hit shows "Prison Break" and "The Mentalist." The latter television role has gone on to become the character Robin is best known for, as she went on to star on the series for seven seasons.
Along with her lucrative acting career, Robin is also one of Hollywood's most famous celebrity poker players. In June 2006, she wound up finishing second place in the Bravo Channel's "Celebrity Poker Showdown," losing to actor Jason Alexander, but finishing ahead of the likes of Christopher Meloni, Joy Behar, Andy Dick, and Michael Ian Black, among many others. Her $200,000 winnings went to the The Children's Health Fund.
