It is rumored she was expelled from the first two; her mother said Rachel had “a problem with authority.” She has also claimed she was a bad student until she was inspired by an English teacher in high school.

When she was 15, Rachel Weisz won a part in “King David,” starring Richard Gere, but her father wouldn’t allow her to take the role. “I wasn’t burning to act. It was something which came later on. It just came my way.”

She later took up acting while at Cambridge University. “I wasn’t at all the star of the school play. I wasn’t getting up on tables and singing. It was more of a secret, really….for me, it’s all about disappearing. When people think of performing they usually think of the show-offs, but I think of it more that you disappear into somebody else.”

Rachel Weisz has a son from her relationship to Darren Aronofsky. About turning age 40 a couple years ago, she said, was “so not a major milestone.” She did admit, as an actor, “you have to look after yourself. It’s like being an athlete. You have to look after yourself and work out.” As for plastic surgery, she said, “Oh, God, ask me in a few years…I’ll just have to see how I go.”

In an interview from 2001, she said of L.A., “In L.A., unless you’ve just won an Oscar or you’re Mr. Studio Head, no one talks to you. Even at parties…L.A. makes you feel ugly.”

Rachel Weisz is set to star opposite her husband, Daniel Craig, on Broadway in Harold Pinter’s “Betrayal.” They have also teamed up the with New York organization The Opportunity Network to help underprivileged people study at college.

She is notably not active on social media. She became a naturalized American citizen in 2011. She’s also not high maintenance. “I can’t bear loud clubs or restaurants. I’d much rather sit in some quiet, out-of-the-way, unglamorous place and have an intimate conversation.” Rachel Weisz resides in both New York and London.
