Pia Ann Rose Toscano is a singer from New York probably best known for her appearance on the tenth season of “American Idol,” in which she placed ninth. Recently, she sang the National Anthem for the LA Kings during the NHL playoffs.
Pia Toscano is of Italian descent and grew up in New York. She began performing when she was only four years old in talent shows. By the time she was nine, she had appeared in a church production of “Jesus Christ Superstar.” She went on to attend New York’s LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts and graduated in 2006.

After graduation, in order to pay the bills, she worked as a make-up artist and was also a wedding singer in a band called “Current Affair.” Pia Toscano auditioned five times for “American Idol” before making it on the show in Season Ten. She said, “This has been my dream since I was a little girl. I’ve worked so hard for this moment, and it’s finally coming true and I couldn’t be more happy.”
During her time on “American Idol,” she was considered a frontrunner. When she was eliminated, the judges were shocked. She quickly signed with Interscope and released a single “This Time,” a song she performed on the American Idol tour.
Aside from American Idol, Pia Toscano has opened for the Barenaked Ladies and performed with Josh Groban. She never released her debut album, as she split from her record company in 2012. She cited “difference of opinion” and constant delays in her decision to split. “I’m finally getting to have a strong voice for what I want to create.”
She added, “When I did get my deal with Interscope, I was over the moon, but I never realized how difficult it would be. Coming from a show where you’re singing other peoples’ songs to becoming an artist…you have to work harder than ever.”
Since signing with new management, she is working on a new album. She told hollywoodreporter.com that “To be honest, I’m happy for this delay because I don’t think I was ready for it when this all started happening.” She would like to record an album that her teenage fan base can relate to with topics such as bullying. “I want them to feel like, ‘Everything’s OK. Pia went through that, I can get through this.”
Pia Toscano has been romantically linked with "Dancing With the Stars" dancer Mark Ballas. She said, "I don't have a type of guy. I like a gentleman." She is currently single and resides in Los Angeles.
