Niykee Heaton is a singer/songwriter from Chicago who burned up the Internet when she shared some photos of her wondrous backside on Instagram. Her debut EP Bad Intentions was released on September 23, 2014.
Niykee Heaton first rose to attention in 2012 when she was 19 and sang a cover of “Love Sofa” on YouTube. Since then she signed a deal with All Def Digital and Capitol Records. She grew up near Chicago but has strong South African roots. “My South African roots are a huge part of my life. My mom is 100% South African,” (complex.com). She began playing guitar when she was 10 (and never had a guitar lesson.) She began singing when she was five by mimicking Diana Ross.
Niykee Heaton wrote on ask.fm that she was raised Mormon “and forced to believe their views. And even as a child, I refused it. I could not believe what they believed. I’m not bashing or bad-mouthing any religion, but it’s just not for me. I am very spiritual and I have my own personal relationship with God. And that is all.”
As for her dreams, she said, “No one in my family believed in me. For years, I would write and compose and perform and no one gave me the confidence or support that I needed.” As for being in high school, she said, “I never went to those high school parties. My Friday nights, I was composing music. People really didn’t like me for that. I got bullied a lot.” She also has a stutter. “I hate my stutter. It makes me anxious and embarrassed, but I’ve learned to slow down when I’m speaking.”
Niykee Heaton described her sexuality as “open.” As for guys, she looks for “confidence, intelligence and humor.”

“My original music is kind of alternative, but I’ve always loved rap music. It’s always been my first choice. If I would be able to write my own music with an urban edge to it, that would be the ultimate dream.” If she weren’t working in music, she said she’d be in South Africa “working with lions and wild animals.”
As for her past pain, Niykee Heaton said, “I watched my big sister die. Deteriorate for years from a terrible illness. I watched her fight every damn day of her life. She never once gave up fighting. At 12 years old, I held her little hand in mine, the day she died, and promised to her, silently, that I would not only live for myself, but also live the life that was stolen from her. I would make her proud. I would change the world. Because I knew she would be watching down on me, guiding me. I stand by that promise, and I live in her name every day. My goal in this lifetime, is to be the angel that saves someone else's life. Even if I couldn't save my own sister.”
Nikyee Heaton is currently single and resides in Chicago.
