You may not know her name, but you definitely recognize her from her roles in "Covert Affairs," "24," "Castle" and "Star Trek Into Darkness." She's Nazneen Contractor, and she described herself on Twitter as "the international Parsi actress with the unusual and long last name." We might've described her as the hot actress with the long name, but we won't argue.
Nazneen Contractor is international, that's for sure: born in Mumbai and raised in Nigeria, Africa until she was 7. She also attended a London boarding school before her family moved to Toronto, Canada.
As for her world travels growing up, Nazneen said, "[My father] told me many times, that his job as a father is to unconditionally love me, to educate me and to show me the world. Growing up, I experienced this for the first few years of my life. Once we made the move to Toronto, I would tell people that I grew up in Africa and London, and they would all sort of look at me. Sometimes I just wished that I was a Jennifer and had blond hair and freckles because it seemed kind of easier sometimes."
Nazneen Contractor grew up dancing, but at 16, she realized that she loved acting, and later attended the University of Toronto to pursue a masters in theatre. Apparently, she is the first woman of Indian descent to play a lead role in a Shakespearean piece on the main stage of the Stratford Festival.
As for her experience on "Star Trek Into Darkness," she said, "A lot of my friends and family who are Trekkies have come out of the woodwork and have come forward to show me their support. It’s all taught me that this is a franchise that has enduring fans of all different races, all different ages. The fans are so diverse and very intelligent and very passionate – rabid at times – but so wonderful to be on the radar for."
Another bit of trivia: Nazneen Contractor was born into the ancient religion of Zoroastrianism, and is one of the 150,000 Parsis in the world. She said of her religion: "We are an extraordinarily tolerant religion. We do not believe that just because you are not Zoroastrian that you are not guaranteed a place in heaven. We were the first religion to introduce the duality of heaven and hell. We believe that God has given us free will to make the right choice in life. I fully believe in, and am very proud to be a Zoroastrian."
She also loves to travel, especially by motorcycle. Unfortunately, fellas, she's off the market; she' s been married to Carlo Rota since 2010. When not working, she likes to practice yoga. Nazneen Contractor now resides in Los Angeles.
