Monica Anna Maria Bellucci is an Italian actress and fashion model probably best known to American audiences for her roles in “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions.” Cinephiles may know her from “Malena” or “Irreversible.”
Monica Bellucci grew up an only child in a small village in Italy and wanted to pursue a career with the law. She attended the University of Perugia and modeled on the side to earn money, but modeling soon became a career.
Monica Bellucci left school and moved to Milan. She later made her American acting debut in “Bram Stoker’s Dracula.” Other roles followed, including parts in “The Apartment” (for which she earned the equivalent of a French Oscar nomination), “Malena,” “Under Suspicion,” “Tears of the Sun,” “Passion of the Christ” and “Brotherhood of the Wolf.”
She said of movies, “We all need illusions. That’s why we love movies.”
French TV viewers elected her the Most Beautiful Woman in the World in 2004. That might explain why she has a wax statute in the Grevin Museum in Paris. She said, “I’m not scared by nudity, because for me, nothing is more beautiful than a body.” Many others agree: Askmen.com ranked her the most desirable woman in 2002 and Men’s Health named her one of the 100 Hottest Women of All-Time.
Monica Bellucci never moved to Hollywood. “I could never live there. They are obsessed with youth and beauty…there is this thing in America where actresses reach 40 and go mad. The film industry wants all these young people…I will never be skinny…I love to eat. Who cares? I am natural.”
Monica Bellucci said, “It doesn’t mean anything, beauty. I mean, if I see a beautiful man, maybe I am surprised for three seconds, but then if I speak with him and he’s completely stupid, I don’t see his beauty anymore.”

As for religion, Monica Bellucci was raised Catholic, but is agnostic. “I believe in energies more than religion. What’s invisible interests me more.”
Monica Bellucci has been married to French actor Vincent Cassel since 1999. She has two children, Deva Cassel and Leonie Cassel. She can speak four languages, including Italian, French, English and Persian.
Monica Bellucci and her family live in Paris, France. “I live in Paris, but I feel I am a daughter of Europe.” She said in 2013, however, that she was moving to Rio de Janeiro because she loves “the poetry of the place.”
