Marla Lynn Sokoloff is an American actress probably best known for her roles on “The Practice” and “Full House.”
Marla Sokoloff was born and raised in San Francisco and moved to Los Angeles in 1994. She enrolled in the Los Angeles County High School of the Arts, where she studied theatre and music. But she began acting when she was 12 when she was cast on “Full House.” She said in an old interview, “I…cringe every time I see a rerun! I don’t keep in contact with anyone, seems like another lifetime ago.” She sometimes performed the National Anthem at events like Oakland A’s games and for the USO. Her resume includes roles on “Party of Five,” “3rd Rock from the Sun,” “7th Heaven” and “Home Improvement,” among others.
Marla Sokoloff said, “I believe momentum is something that’s really important in the business that we’re in, the craziness of it all. If you go away for five seconds people think you quit or have a drug problem or something.”
She added, as to her character on “The Practice,” “It’s a really tricky situation when you get off a series because you’re seen as something for so long…people still see me as the young receptionist. It’s hard to break through that mold and it takes a lot of work and a period of time for people to stop thinking of you in that one way, to forget that side of you.”
Aside from acting, Marla Sokoloff was a singer/guitarist for the band Smittin. She has played under her own name, as well. In 2006 she released her own album entitled “Grateful.” She said, “Smittin was a band that I had been in since the 9th grade. It was just your normal high school band. We had a big LA following which was awesome, but like all things, it came to an end. Everyone had different projects they wanted to do, and I was working too much to play as often as we should have.”
Apparently, she used to date James Franco, and he admitted on The Howard Stern Show that he had made a sex-tape with her. “It was an innocent thing we made for ourselves.”
Marla Sokoloff gave birth to her first child in 2012, Elliotte Anne Puro. Marla is married and resides in Los Angeles, California.
