Born Elizabeth Malese Jow is an American actress and songwriter. Most recently, she will be part of the 2013-2014 midseason schedule on the Oxygen show “Star-Crossed,” which is about a romance between a human girl and an alien boy.
Malese Jow is a mix of Chinese, Caucasian and Cherokee Indian ancestry. As a child, she would sing the national anthem at local baseball games. “When I was little I actually loved singing first, and craved to be on stage.” She graduated from Cold River Academy when she was 16.

Malese Jow began her career in 1999, appearing in McDonald’s commercials. In 2002, at the age of 11, she competed on Ed McMahon’s “Next Big Star” where she won 4 rounds in the kids’ category. In 2003, she appeared on Nickelodeon’s “Unfabulous” acting opposite Emma Roberts. She was on the show for three seasons. She also appeared on “Wizards of Waverly Place,” “iCarly” “The Young and the Restless” and “Bratz-the-Movie.”
Since then, she’s appeared in “Vampire Diaries” “Leverage,” and “Desperate Housewives," among others.
Malese Jow said about the entertainment industry, “You can’t take rejection too personally. Coming to grips with how many people are going after the same roles will make you realize that it’s more like a business decision and nothing personal.”
Malese Jow lives by the philosophy of “everything happens for a reason.” She said, “Life became much easier when I stopped trying to figure things out for myself and let go, knowing that everything would fall into place.”
As for her role in “The Social Network,” she said it was a great opportunity to break onto the big screen, which is her ultimate goal. As for her contacts on “Vampire Diaries,” she said they were “very, very hard to put in because they cover your whole eye.” She described herself as an “old soul” as well as a “homebody.”
As for music, Malese Jow said, “music is a representation of me as a person. With acting, you’re at the mercy of so many people. Music expresses me, not someone else’s vision of what they want me to be.”
Even though she now lives in California, she said, “We were raised the Oklahoma way – very down to earth and humble. I still visit at least once a year.” Malese Jow is currently single.
