Laura Vandervoort is a Canadian television and film actress. She is best known for her role as Kara (aka Supergirl) on the long-running CW series, "Smallville."
Laura Dianne Vandervoort was born in Toronto, Canada on September 22, 1984. Unlike most actresses, we were all almost robbed of the beautiful blonde beauty when she was just six weeks old after she contracted a serious case of meningitis. Fortunately, after sever weeks in the hospital, she was able to fight off the illness, even though her parents were told she would likely not survive. Since then, Laura grew up very much a tomboy, not only participating in sports such as football, soccer, gymnastics, and basketball, but also karate, to which she eventually became a second-degree black belt.
Ever the little entertainer even as a child, Laura got her first experiences in television as a background actor in Canadian commercials and TV series such as "Avonlea" and "Harriet the Spy." In time, she was able to nab her first speaking parts in popular children's series such as "Goosebumps" and "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" Guest roles continued to float her way until landing her first series regular role in 2004 on "Instant Star," which lasted for four seasons. In 2007, Laura was cast in her first ever feature film role in "The Lookout," which also starred Jeff Daniels and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Of course, Laura Vandervoort didn't truly become a household name until she was cast as Kara Kent, cousin to Clark Kent on the popular CW series, "Smallville." The show's success and Laura's ravishing beauty went on to bring her much success in her career. Since then, Laura has gone on to star in over 20 television and film roles. Among the most popular include characters on "V," "Captain Canuck," and supernatural series, "Bitten."
