Due to her seeming resemblance to Grace Kelly, her nickname is Jaaprinsessa (ice princess). Apparently, she’s not very comfortable with the “princess” image. Kiira Korpi can speak Swedish, German, English and Finnish. Her father is a well-known hockey coach in Finland and coached the Finnish team to the bronze medal at the 1998 Olympics.

Kiira Korpi began skating when she was five years old, following in the footsteps of her older sister. Kiira still calls her sister “my best support and example.” (Her sister is a cutie, too). She made her first triple jump when she was a preteen. She said, “I found myself wanting to be the world’s best skater. Such things happen without being able to say which day or year it was.” She lives by the motto “Devotion is my fortune.”

Kiira Korpi was the 2007 and 2011 European bronze medalist, the 2010 Trophee Eric Bompard champion and two-time Finnish national champion. She suffered a foot injury in 2011 and had to withdraw from competitions that year. She later competed, but in 2013, she had to withdraw due to an Achilles tendon injury.

When she’s not skating, she stays in shape with Pilates or yoga. She is attracted to athletic and positive people. “It doesn’t matter if he is dark or blonde, short or tall. But you have to be able to trust each other, that’s an absolute.”

She attended the University of Tampere in Finland. Her hobbies are reading, music and hanging out with friends. Kiira Korpi currently resides in Finland and continues to train.
