Kelly Hu is an American actress and former fashion model. She is known for her roles in films such as "The Scorpion King" and "X-Men 2," as well as television roles on such series as "Sunset Beach," "The Vampire Diaries," and "Arrow."
Kelly Ann Hu was born on February 13, 1968 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Even as a child, she expressed interest in the performing arts, taking both ballet and tap-dance lessons growing up. She was also a talented singer, as well as martial artist, eventually attaining a black belt in karate. Kelly attended both Maʻemaʻe Elementary School and Kamehameha Schools in Honolulu, Hawaii before moving on to Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.
Prior to making her way to Hollywood, Kelly decided to first try her hand at modeling since she had a cousin who was already a very popular model in Japan. Following in those footsteps, Kelly began making a living by modeling in both Japan and Italy. She even starred in a string of popular advertisements for Philadelphia cream cheese in Italy. In 1985, she was voted Miss Hawaii Teen USA, eventually moving up the ranks to Miss Teen USA the same year. She was the first Asian-American to hold the title. By 1993, she had again outdone herself by becoming Miss Hawaii USA.
Two years after taking the Miss Teen USA title, Kelly moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of an acting career. Soon enough, she was cast in her fist television role as a love interest to the Mike Seaver character on "Growing Pains." From here, she starred in her first feature film, "Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan," which only lead to more prominent TV and film roles. She is probably most famous for playing Lady Deathstrike in the popular comic book film, "X-Men 2," but has all together starred in nearly one hundred roles since her career as an actress first began in 1987.
