Kelly Carlson grew up in Minnesota and attended the Academy of Holy Angels. She was an equestrian rider since she was seven years old. Her mother is a hairdresser and her father was a high school football coach. Her nickname is “Nugget.” Growing up, she appeared in small-time productions in her home state.


Aside from acting, Kelly Carlson has modeled with campaigns that include Oliver Peoples sunglasses, Miller Lite, Rembrandt, and the magazines Stuff and Maxim.


Kelly Carlson has also appeared in “Everwood,” “CSI,” “Melrose Place” and “Ghostfacers,” among other projects. Her role on “Nip/Tuck” was just a guest spot, but fans liked her so much she came back until she became a series regular in the third season.

She revealed that plastic surgery helped her win stardom after she nearly lost her life twice in near-fatal auto accidents ( She said, “I believe in moderation like everything else [regarding plastic surgery]. It’s not right when people become addicted to it like a junkie.”


She said, “I’m a pretty girl, and I like to embrace it. I don’t abuse it, but I like to embrace it.”


Kelly Carlson has trained in Kali, a Filipino martial arts system for years. She stays in shape, she said, “I work my ass off on my body. I lift weights. I eat really healthy. I rarely drink alcohol. There is pressure, and I’d be the first to be scrutinized if I wasn’t in shape.”

She said of the paparazzi, “The paparazzi that I know are very kind to me and are very polite, and I’m very polite to them. They do play an important role in our careers, they really do.”


In 2010, Kelly Carlson lobbied for a bill to prevent the inhuman transport of American horses to slaughterhouse outside of the country.


She is also the sponsor for LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society that helps former racehorses.
