Kate French is an American television and film actress. She is known best for portraying Niki Stevens on the lesbian drama series, "The L Word."
Kate Lauren French was born in Flemington, New Jersey, but grew up in both South Kingstown, Rhode Island and Lambertville, New Jersey. Eventually, she moved with her family to Long Island. With both of her parents being models, it was only natural for Kate to try and follow in their footsteps. However, after dabbling in the profession in high school, she quickly discovered that she was actually more interested in acting. So, after briefly attending The University of California in Santa Barbara, she decided to drop out and pursue a career in Hollywood instead.
By 2006, Kate had landed her first official role in the college comedy film, "Accepted." From there, she was cast as a series regular on "Wicked Wicked Games" before joining the cast of "South of Nowhere" in 2007. By 2008, Kate was cast as a recurring character on the hit Showtime series, "The L Word," playing a closeted lesbian actress character by the name of Niki Stevens. The role went on to be considered one of her most popular in her career.
Since "The L Word" finale in 2009, Kate has since gone back to school, attending New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and graduating with a bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama. She also married photographer, Jon Johnson, on September 25, 2010. The couple had their first child, a son named Henry William Johnson, on January 12, 2013. All the while, Kate has continued her acting career, playing recurring roles on such series as "One Tree Hill" and "Gossip Girl." In her free time, she enjoys surfing most, and is even a supporter of the Surfrider Foundation.
