Julia Mancuso was born in Reno, Nevada on March 9, 1984. Growing up in a family that promoted as active of a lifestyle as possible, she spent her younger years not only skiing, but aspiring to keep up with the skill level of her older sister. However, that skill level was soon surpassed, and by the age of 15, Julia had already broken into the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup scene, scoring her first official World Cup points (finishing in the top 30) a mere two years after competing competitively.

Between the years of 2002 and 2004, Julia saw much success in the Junior World Championships, taking home a record-setting eight medals in the time period, with five of them being gold. Her successes only continued to multiply as the years progressed, as she took home a bronze at the 2005 World Championship, and was well on her way to even better placement in the years to come. Unfortunately, a bout with hip dysplasia the following season put a damper on her skiing career until 2007.

As mentioned originally, though, Julia's biggest successes came in the form of World Cups, taking home an unprecedented seven wins in various events between the years of 2002 and 2014. Of course, this is not even factoring in what would become her truly greatest accomplishments: taking home three Winter Olympic medals between 2002 and 2010, with one being an unexpected gold in the giant slalom event in 2006.

Beyond alpine skiing, however, Julia remains active in numerous other ways as well. Namely, she spends her offseasons training in Hawaii, while still finding the time to launch her own underwear line, fitness center, and charity for victims of the 2011 tsunami in Japan. She is truly the athlete that never quits.
