Jessi Malay is a singer and dancer probably best known for her association with the girl group No Secrets, though she described herself on Instagram as “Singer, Dancer, Fashion Blogger.” She currently has a solo album called “Give Me Life” that was released in May 2014.
Ethnically, Jessi Malay described herself as “a big mutt. My mom is Filipino and Spanish and my dad is white…he’s Russian and Czech. I’ve got a little Brazilian in there, too.” She said, “I love being so multi-ethnic because I never feel like I have to conform one way of being or another…I feel like I can belong everywhere, or I can relate to everybody on some level.”
Her Achilles heel is her sweet tooth. “But I work out and I dance.”
Jessi Malay was born and raised in the Los Angeles area and ever since she was little was obsessed with entertainment. “I started singing and dancing when I was four, joined touring performing groups when I was eight, and by 14, I was part of the girl group No Secrets on Jive Records.” When she was 17, she signed as a solo artist. She later attended UCLA.
She eventually graduated UCLA in 2012 with a degree in World Arts and Cultures/Dance.
As for her time with No Secrets, she said, “It was a very exciting growing process, and it really taught me a lot about how to work as a team, how to ring people in and patience.”
Musically, her role models are Madonna, Janet Jackson and Beyoncé. “These are all women I really look up to who I think have not only mastered their craft but have some intangible thing that makes them untouchable, icons, yet at the same time human enough to let you see through to who they really are….”
As for guys, Jessi Malay said, “My number one criteria is just to be humble. I can’t stand cocky guys. There’s a difference between confidence and cockiness and confidence is the second requirement.” She also shows her commitment by baking. “Baking’s kinda like the year in. That’s like showing your domestic side and you don’t wanna do that unless you’re thinking that way,” (adambernardblogspot.com).
Jessi Malay is currently single and resides in Los Angeles, California.
