About comedy, Jenny Slate said, “I think everybody has their own recipe and motivation for being funny. I’ve always wanted to be a comedian, but mine stems from wanting to say something that I truly feel and hoping that people will love me for it – putting it in a light that makes people smile and makes their energy go up. I like comedy because I think it makes people happy, rather than because it makes you seem funnier than other people.”

She honed her comedy chops in a variety of projects, including spots on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” “Bored to Death” and VH1 commentaries. She joined “Saturday Night Live” for one season in 2009-2010. She famously dropped an F-bomb while on air.

Of her experience, Jenny Slate said, “Thirty Rock’s a romantic place, and there are so many romantic things about it. The costumes have been there forever. You look in a pair of pants, and in Sharpie it says GILDA in them." She added, “But it was a really weird disappointment when I got there and realized how foolish it was that what I expected it would be was from the expectations of a 7-year-old. And that they didn’t actually want my creative input as a woman.”

Afterwards, she admitted, “It took me a few years to get back to myself; I developed stage fright, so I went to a hypnotist.” Seems as though her career has recovered nicely since then.

Jenny Slate now resides in Los Angeles, California.
