Jenna-Louise Coleman was born in Blackpool, Lancashire, England on April 27, 1986. She began her acting career at a fairly young age as a member of the theater company, "In Yer Space." While most actors go through plenty of schooling in the craft before they hit it big, this was not the case with Jenna. It was, in fact, while auditioning for drama schools in 2005 that she was chosen to play a role on the UK series, "Emmerdale." While she has said before that she regrets never having the conventional university experience, surely those regrets washed away pretty quickly after the series not only landed her an award nomination for "Most Popular Newcomer" at the 2007 National Television Awards, but also a British Soap Opera Award nomination the same year.

From there, Jenna's career continued to thrive. When "Emmerdale" ended in 2009, she was cast as a schoolgirl on the series, "Waterloo Road." At the time, she was 23 years old, so that goes to show just how young she looks. From there, she landed a role on the television adaptation of the novel, Room at the Top, by John Braine. Even though it was shot in 2011, due to a rights dispute, it was not released until 2012. Also in 2011, Jenna made her feature film debut with a small role in the American film "Captain America: The First Avenger." She would go on to star on mini-series, "Titanic," and series "Dancing on the Edge," as well.

The year 2012 turned out to be Jenna's most promising yet, as it was announced on March 21 that she would be the companion to the 11th incarnation of Doctor Who, played by Matt Smith. Since the series is shrouded in secrecy, Jenna actually had to tell people she was auditioning for a series called "Men on Waves," which is an acronym for "woman seven" since it's the seventh "Doctor Who" series. As of June 20, 2013, Jenna stopped being credited as "Jenna-Louise Coleman" and began going by the stage name "Jenna Coleman."
