Her nickname is Hollie and she was named after her mother’s favorite singer, Billie Holliday.

Holliday Grainger was born in Manchester, England, and she is part Italian. She got into acting at the age of six when she was scouted for a BBC TV series. After that, she appeared in a variety of TV shows as a child actor. She said, “I guess I was about 12 when I realized – yes, this is what I want to do. But I wouldn’t flat out admit it right away.” As a kid, she took piano, gymnastics and Taekwondo lessons.

After she graduated from high school, she attended the University of Leeds where she studied English Literature. She said, “They basically threw me out, because I was taking too much time off to act. So I transferred to the Open University because I could do it all online.” She said, “When it got to the point where I finished school, I was really at a crossroads. I wished I could split into three people: one to go to university, one to go to drama school and one to carrying on acting full-time.”

As for her role in “Bonnie & Clyde,” she shared that she can handle a gun now. “Within a week of shooting, running around and speaking a Texas accent, you’re so involved in the scene that you don’t notice the gun in your hand.”

When asked if women have it harder being taken seriously in the entertainment industry, Holliday Grainger said, “I think there’s a switch side to that, in the sense that men in general have bigger egos and sometimes there can be this testosterone contest on set that you’re automatically not a part of,” hungertv.com.

As for her career, she added, “I love the opportunity to do lots of different kinds or projects – independent films and big studio epics as well. I’d love to be able to do a mixture.”

A bit of trivia: her guilty pleasure is dark chocolate. “I’m not good at restraining myself. Then I go for a jog.”
