Hannah Teter's family is into outdoor winter sports; her parents were skiers before they took up snowboarding, and she has two brothers who snowboard, as well. She said growing up her favorite thing was bouncing on a trampoline. She initially took up snowboarding in an effort to keep up with her brothers.

Hannah Teter began the sport when she was young and by the age of 15 had won the World Junior Halfpipe Championship. In 2003, she became the youngest member of the U.S. Snowboarding Team, and in 2004 the North American Snowsports Journalists Association named her its “Competitor of the Year.”

Hannah Teter has five bronzes and a gold at the Aspen X Games; a bronze at the FIS Snowboarding World Championship; a gold at the 2006 Olympics, and silver at the 2010 Olympics.

She said the “bitchiness-meter is very low” in professional snowboarding among women. “We all feel pretty grateful four our lifestyles, and connected to everybody in the industry as a whole.”

Though she lives in Tahoe, CA, she also spends time surfing in Costa Rica. She stays in shape by meditating, practicing yoga, and eating an organic, vegetarian diet.

Aside from sports, Hannah Teter is active in the charity Hannah’s Gold, which she started in 2008 and helps the Kirindon community in Kenya. She said, “I always knew that I had life so good, that many others were suffering, and that money didn’t make you happy anyways, so why not use it to do good things?”

A bit of trivia: Ben & Jerry’s limited edition flavor “Maple Blondie” was created in her name.
